Plano West Spring Lacrosse - "Game On"

Join one of the fastest growing sports in the nation. Plano West Lacrosse is dedicated to our mission to create a safe, competitive atmosphere to play the game of lacrosse. Our intent is to teach young players how to play the game and equip players with the knowledge and skills to become as successful as possible.

The Plano West Lacrosse seeks to teach the game of lacrosse to beginners as well as seasoned players. We encourage those who have no experience at all to join us.

Our spring league will begin the first weekend in February and ends the first weekend in May.

Players will learn and improve their skills twice a week through team drills, practices, and scrimmages. Practices will take place 2 - 5 per week on fields in Plano. Teams should expect to play 10 games on either week nights and/or weekend days. Tournaments and Jamborees are available after the regular season for an additional nominal fee to cover tournament/jamboree entry fees.

The league format will give both the beginner and experienced players a chance to be coached in a team atmosphere. Teams will be grouped by grades. All 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th and 7th-8th grade boys. Players will learn and improve their skills twice a week through team drills, practices, and scrimmages. Teams will then get to put their abilities to the test as they compete in fun and exciting games with teams from other communities in the Metroplex. All our PWLC youth teams are members of the DFWYLL league which is made up of teams from all over DFW.

SPRING LACROSSE GUIDELINES:

It Takes A Commitment! You should be prepared to adhere to the following:

PWLC places great emphasis and value on always keeping a positive attitude, you will be expected to respect your teammates, opponents, and referees, no matter what the score. Poor sportsmanship is not acceptable and will get you benched. Although winning is great, our goal is for you is to develop the skills, discipline, and attitude that will help you succeed later in life.

ATTENDANCE: Players are expected to attend ALL lacrosse games and practices. Practices are as important as games . We believe that all youth lacrosse players need ample playing time during both practices and games to develop and get the most enjoyment out of the game. Please call, text or email the head coach at least 24 hours BEFORE practice if you are going to be absent.

ARRIVAL: Players should be fully dressed, on the field and ready to play -- on time. Players need to arrive 15 minutes before practice begins to dress. Arrive 30 minutes before all games to allow time for pre-game drills and warm up.

Why do we need a strong and well-defined Attendance Policy?

Respect: Respect for your coach, your teammates and yourself. Coaches spend considerable time in planning and running practices to teach skills and prepare for games. A practice plan relies on consistent attendance from all players. With just a few late or missing players, a practice plan can be thrown out the window.

Teamwork: Lacrosse is a team sport. Teamwork is a "life skill" that stays with young athletes long after they stop playing sports. It often makes them better in social, educational and, eventually, professional environments.

Commitment: On a team, the group suffers unless everyone is committed to its success. Commitment requires that everyone show up ready to play on time every session. Showing up "when you feel like it" just doesn't cut it in Plano West lacrosse, just like it doesn't cut it when you are a member of a musical band, a theatrical play, or any other group activity. Making commitments and fulfilling them are important in both sports and life. We want to send the right message to our players. The life skills learned in youth sports are much more sustaining than the sports skills that they learn (although we care a lot about developing sports skills, too.)

We will follow a simple equation: Attitude Effort Attendance = Playing Time:
Players who attend practice, try hard and follow the Code of Conduct will receive ample playing time. Players who do not attend every practice, do not show up on time, do not try their hardest and do not show respect for coaches, officials, opponents, and teammates will not get as much playing time as their teammates. Please discuss this policy with your child.
